1) Sermons for Teens?

Do you have any sermons that would be appropriate for Teenagers and Sr. High Students.
I'm to have devotions Sunday evening Sept. 28th. I have no idea what to speak to them about.

3) Plinko Game

I need to construct a Plinko game for my sons fall festival. He attends St. Luke Methodist School in Columbus Georgia.
I have found several references to the game on you website. I need a blue print or more specific directions to make the game.
Any help you can give is appreciated.

4) Costumes for Lock-In?

I need some ideas for costumes for a Lock In party our church is having on October 31st. This will be the second year we have held a party on this day to give children an alternative to Halloween and this year's theme is "Survivor-Temptation Island". I got this theme from SSTN's website and I love everything that was on the website and will be using all of those ideas. My dilemma is what kinds of costumes the kids could wear. I would like to give them some ideas that would go along with the "beach party" theme, but I can't think of anything except shorts-tshirts and flowery dresses. Any help would be greatly appreciated on this subject.

5) Noah's Ark Craft

cut an ark out of heavy construction paper....cut out several windows...maybe 5....glue the ark onto another piece of construction paper and glue animal crackers into the window openings....this is very easy and the children can also eat the left over crackers for their snack

6) Sword Drill

In response to the sword drill question. What I do sometimes is get scriptures
based on one subject to have a theme to the sword drill. You can also have
them guess what the theme is.

7) Apple Seed Star Devotion

I just used the idea about how you can't judge people by the way they look
or your first impressions of them. We then talked about how people normally
slice apples, and then I asked for ideas about new ways we could cut them.
Eventually, someone suggested cutting the apple across the middle. I acted
surprised to find the "star." I told the children that if we'll just give
people of other races, social backgrounds, etc. a chance, we'll be able to
find something good in everyone... We then made "impressions" of the apple's
star. These only work well if you let an apple sit out and dry up some for a
while...

I could also see using the apple star as a devotion about the Wise Men
following the star to find Jesus!

8) Samaritan's Purse Project

I am responding to Julie Richardson's suggestion on the Samitarian's Purse Christmas Project.  Our church, Mount Zion Lutheran Church. Lewisberry, PA has been doing this for about the last 5 years.  I think it is a great outreach project for the church.  When you are filling those shoe boxes you are helping third world children, kids who have nothing!!!!!!! Christian literature is put in those boxes in the respective language to pass on the word of God.

I have found that I collect for this project during the entire year.  When you are shopping and see a small doll, car, or stuffed animal or any other appropriate toy I get it.  You can find many things on sale during the year on a "junk table" which are perfectly good and some child would love to have.  Buying paper, pencils, crayons, and other school supplies around school time gets you great buys. You find that by the time November comes you have many items and can fill many shoe boxes.  In fact, I had more than enough to fill ten shoe boxes and I put out only a small amount of money at a time -- less probably then I would have than picking up a TV Guide or other magazine at the check-out, which you don't think twice about buying.  It gives you a good feeling knowing that you have helped these children.

It is something that your church needs to do as a group and I would highly suggest it.  If you check in your community, I bet you will find that there are even drop-off points to take those boxes to be sent to a central collection area.  This outreach reaches children from infants to teen-ages.  You put your items in age appropriate boxes.  I hope churchs check out that web-site.  There is still plenty of time to do it for this year as boxes are not collected until November.  

If you need shoe boxes. I found that Pay Less will be glad to give them to you.  Probably other shoe stores would also do that.  When you tell them what you are doing with them, you would be surprised how responsive people are in helping.  We only hear about the bad things, but there are good ones out there.  Sometimes we just have to look a little harder to find them.

9) Thanks for attitudes

Wanted to say thanks to Angie for being so helpful with the attitudes -
not beatitudes question.   It certainly isn't that I have anything
against the beatitudes, it's just that I am using the book "God Attitudes
Win"  It has attitudes like, "I'm not sharing, I'm better than you are,
Give it to me,  I hate you!, Try and make me,  No one will ever know,
I'll do it my way" etc.  All use a Bible story and Scripture to
illustrate how wrong they are, and how Jesus can help us with them.  
They are very pertinent issues that most kids have a problem with.  Once
again, thanks Angie from WV, and if you have any more ideas concerning
these attitudes, I'd love to hear them!

10) Apple Lesson

I have used this in my special ed.. classroom.  Have each child bring an apple--you are looking for different colors, shapes, imperfect apples.  Examine the apples individually and comment on the differences.  Cut each apple in half across.  Show the child the star inside.  God made all of us different on the outside, but inside we're all the same.

12) Contemporary Worship

Try www.damaris.org who have lots of resources on using secular films, music etc and offering parallels with the Christian faith. They're ideal for situations where you may have a number of people who are seekers as well as for regular attenders.  There are references to the Hulk film, Lord of the Rings, Mission Impossible etc.  On a monthly basis a team our church her in the UK have used different themes varying from Homelessness to parallels of being at the beach, on vacation, Time (we did a three service series on Time past, present and future).  this followed a request from our congregation to try different things and to remain relevant to our youngsters.  Praise God!
