Camping theme:
One theme that seemed to work very well for our congregation was a camping theme. I was in charge of the Bible theme stories and I had a classroom with no windows (you can cover any windows you have with cardboard and paint stars or trees on the cardboard with glow-in- the -dark paint.) I then covered the walls and ceiling with glow -in -the -dark stick on stars. Have blankets for "sleeping bags" for the children to sit on the floor. Have a few responsible students hold flashlights to sit next to children who may be a little afraid of the dark. Put a small lamp "camp fire" on the floor in front of you (use a low watt, preferably yellow bulb and cover the sides loosley with foil). Tell the Bible lesson for the day in front of the "camp fire" and discuss it under the "stars". If you want to cut down on time, this would also be a good time to serve a snack such as: popcorn, pre-made smores or trail mix! It will be a big hit!
God bless you!

Discipline/VBS
Dear Meg: One thing we try to do is always show God's love in VBS. One way to do this is to separate consistently disruptive students to a classroom set aside to teach about His love and how He wants us to behave. They can color a picture and have a short discussion on this matter or just sit and listen. Inform them that they can join the other students at a time you decide. The student or students can stay in this room from 15 minutes to the entire VBS day. The key is showing patients and love but, let them know that they would be missing out on the fun with the rest of the students!

Public School Religion:
Christy, I am intrigued that Ohio has a course for 'Public School Religion'.
Please tell us more about it? It sounds amazing!

Edible Easter Bunny Necklace:
Children of all ages can have a great time stringing their own edible necklaces. All you need are strawberry or black shoestring licorice, Marshmallow Bunnies, cereal with holes, cocktail pretzels, or any other stringable food. Using a skewer or other sharp instrument (an adult should help here), poke holes throughout the sides of the ears of the Bunnies. From here, children can string together many different designs with the stringable food. The necklaces can be tied behind the neck, for a truly sweet fashion statement...if they last long enough. Christ, our Passover Lamb - Happy Passover!
"...He was pierced for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him...we all like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all..." Isaiah 53:4-7.
"...For Christ, our Passover lamb has been sacrificed..." 1 Corinthians 5:7.
In Jesus' death on the cross, he fulfilled the true meaning of the Jewish sacrifice of the Passover lamb. Just as the angel of death 'passed over' the Israelite families that marked their doorposts with the lamb's blood, so too, eternal death will 'pass over' those who are covered by the blood of the LAMB of God.
* Jesus was crucified on Passover Day, a celebration that began the evening before when the Passover meal was eaten, (Jesus' Last Supper).
The great news is that death couldn't hold Jesus! He is the FirstFruit of the Resurrection. "If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith...and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins...if only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep..."
1 Corinthians 15:17-23.
