I truly believe that being positive has it's own reward. I was the one who
suggested "caught being good tickets" - and believe me, it works. It is
also true, when you have the children make up their own set of rules, they
tend to be more respectful to them! Plus you are having them make positive,
good decisions in the process! Even in my house, I try to use "remember
your lunch money" - rather than "don't forget your lunch money". Can you
see how one is positive and the other is negative? I totally agree that
"POSITIVITY" is the key word!

> Hi, a special child just joined my class and he's about 5 yrs old. My

I think the key here is not to figure how to handle the special needs child,
but to inform the other children that he is different. Most children are
not confronted with differently abled people on a day to day basis, and this
is not a bad thing. It will enable them to learn about special needs people
and to understand the differences. I don't know what his disability is -
but the making noises might not be something he can control, so the other
children need to understand this. Maybe talking with his parents would
help - or have them come in and explain how/why he is different. If you
think he'd be sensitive to that - maybe he can be a volunteer to help out in
another class while this takes place. Good luck and God bless.

(AbbaGail has some special recipes she would like to share with the network. If you are interested in receiving them, you can email her. Her address is in the letter below.)

**Gifts in a Jar**
The first recipe is the one you make and put into the jar. The second
recipe should be printed out in a nice font, maybe with a nice border
around it, and attached to the jar. A simple circle of cloth placed
between the seal and the ring (of a two-part canning lid) makes a pretty
effect and you could also add a ribbon around the ring. A great thing to
do is pick an appropriate Bible verse and attach that also to the card.
Many of the recipes are designed to fit in a standard 1-quart canning jar.

I have a whole packet of recipes in a jar, and what a GREAT ministry
to so many people. It so quick, easy, and inexpensive!
If you would like the recipes write me at:

InaweofGod@hotmail.com

I 'd love to send you them all!
AbbaGail
P.S. KIDS love to help make these, too!

Here is my question I would really like help with:

A young mom friend of mine is just beginning to disciple other young
single moms. They all have 1-2 children elementary age. The children will be
coming the SAME TIME as the young moms and Julie needed something to
occupy them for an hour while she is teaching the ladies. Julie, the
mom, wants to be able to teach the kids something about God and have an
easy to do craft to occupy them for an hour. The problem is that she
cannot find a young person to teach them, so it would have to be
something that could just be quickly explained and done on their own. I
was asked to teach them but could not take on the responsibility right
now. If you know of any young person in Minnesota to help, or just ideas
for what I said above would be MUCH appreciated!!!!! THANK YOU!!

This is the first time I have responded to anything but as a mother of a
special needs child and in charge of a Sunday School which has kids with
special needs thought this might be the time!
Firstly from the child's point of view, they may have some kind of
communication disorder which may display as bad behavior or being
withdrawn, they may not even want to be there!(my son hates Sunday
school due to excessive noise and inability to interact with others.)
Imagine how frightening it must all seem. Finding out as much as
possible from the parents would be a great idea without trying to sound
official, this is done in love and is a completely different set-up from
school/nursery. Sometimes making too much of a fuss of the child can be
detrimental, "grouping" them with another child takes the heat of them
and likens them to those around them.
As a teacher it is vital to maintain some sort of order and this takes
perseverance, patience and most of all love. If the child is constantly
being asked "not to" do something this will stay with them, children
with special needs often perceive the world to be a different place to
what you or I consider it to be and to meet with negative responses must
be dreadful.
I wish you well and hope this doesn't sound as if I know all there is to
know, I'm still learning, it can be a painful walk but the rewards are
there!
This comes all the way from Scotland UK!
God Bless

Here's something that came to mind when I was trying to sleep last night :o)
I can see this used in Kindergarten-6th grade S.S., as well as for an attention
getting witnessing tract.

ARE YOU SURE YOU KNOW YOUR A-B-C'S?

All have sinned and fall short of God's glory. (Romans 3:23)
Believe on the Lord Jesus and be justified. (Romans 10:9-10)
Confess with your mouth and be saved. (Romans 10:9-10)

One thing I like to say when explaining "justification" to my class is this:
When I trust in God to save and forgive me through Jesus' death on the cross,
I am "Justified". Which means, God sees me "Just-as-if-I'd-never-sinned".
