1) That Shiny New Thing

“What was that flash?” I looked around, but I didn’t see anything. Then it happened again. “What is that?” I still didn’t see anything. I refocused my attention, “I’m trying to read my Bible!” I read some more, but it happened again. Only this time, the flashing was persistent. “What in the world is going on?” I looked around the room. Nothing. Then I glanced out the window and discovered the neighbor across the street had put a large metallic pinwheel in his yard. Because it was a windy, sunny day, it shone and flashed in a strobe-like effect, directly into our front window, disturbing my quiet-time!

I guess I’m easily distracted. But as I continued reading, trying to ignore my keen peripheral vision, it reminded me of a spiritual truth, that is, how easily I can become distracted by “shiny things” in my life - some good, some not-so-good – and take my eyes off of Jesus as a result. Can you relate? When I was younger, I suppose the shiny new things that tended to distract me were . . . continue reading at: http://www.sundayschoolnetwork.com/devo-keep-your-eyes-on-Jesus-the-author.html

2) Pentecost Sunday Activity

This Sunday, May 15th, is Pentecost Sunday. Pentecost is a Greek word in the New Testament meaning fifty. It is known in the the Old Testament as the Feast of Weeks or the Feast of Harvest (See Leviticus 23), it is to be observed fifty days after the Feast of Firstfruits.

Pentecost Sunday occurs fifty days after the resurrection of Jesus, our Passover Lamb, who rose from the dead, the firstfruit of those who have died in Christ (1 Corinthians 15:20). Pentecost is the day we celebrate and remember when Christians were first given power from God's Spirit to do his work on earth. Get our Pentecost Activity.

3) What Kind of Seed Are You?

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 2 Peter 1:3

On a recent bicycle ride to the beach I was mulling over today’s Bible verse. Peddling along I spotted a perfectly formed, miniature coconut seed lying in the middle of the path. I stopped to pick it up. Holding it, I thought of its potential. God had created it with the appropriate DNA; it contained everything it needed to grow and mature into a beautiful coconut palm tree. I marveled as I realized the seed illustrated the verse! God’s children have been given everything we need—in Christ—for life and godliness.
