2) Jesus Lessons?

Dear Sarah and the SSTN readers,

I'm looking at doing a 1 term, 2 term or even possibly year study on Jesus
for my class this year. Has anyone used or know of any good material
(tried and true / or new) that's out there? I've been really convicted not
to let Jesus be portrayed as a fairy tale character, but as a real boy,
teen, and finally a man, who is truly real. I
not only want my kids to ask "What would Jesus do?" but to know the answer
as well. Any responses would be deeply appreciated  <><

(character) of Jesus. (ie. King of Kings, The WAY, The Vine, Lamb of God,

3) Positive advise for taming unruly children

I hope this really does help some of the teachers who are pulling their
hair out because of unruly children.

Positive teachers make positive children! Jesus proves this.
I have a little simple system that I always use and it has not failed me
yet. On a piece of poster board, I make a grid of numbers from 1 to 100.
Then I make little slips of paper with the words "Positive points" or
"Christian Bucks" or whatever little positive wording you choose, usually
20 to a sheet of construction paper and cut them apart as little coupons.
Whenever I see a child doing positive things, like listening during the
class, remembering the memory verse, helping
a younger child accomplish a task, working well in a group, answering a
question, sitting quietly while I speak, the list goes on and on as you
look for any positive behavior to reward. I have my students earn 5 point
coupons, and then I add a sticker to the 1-100 chart I made. When they
reach our goal of 100 (500 positive things) we do something special, like
have popcorn and sodas, pizza, etc... You have to pattern the program to
fit your kids, and the rewards what suits the group, and it really will
work. It has calmed kids in my class that seemed uncontrollable. NEVER LET
IT BECOME A COMPETITION BETWEEN STUDENTS....ALWAYS A GROUP EFFORT!  It
only makes things worse when you do individual awards. Just don't let it
take over your class, keep a few coupons handy to give out as needed,
collect them at the end of class, and tally them up.

4) ZONK...The fun way to review kids in Sunday School

Need a fun way to review the kids to see if you have taught the lesson
well? A friend of mine gave me this idea and it is wonderful.
On a piece of poster board, write ZONK across the top 1/4 of the page,
then glue as many little envelopes (like you put in library books) as will fit
on the remaining board. Index cards will fit into the pockets, on them write
only on the lower part so the words don't show, on three write ZONK on the
others put a smiley face. Make up a list of review questions, line the
kids up in one row, or into two teams. The children take turns drawing a
card. If they get a smiley face, and can answer the question, they get a
point, I give little pom pons from the craft section, if they get it
wrong, no point. If they draw a zonk card they have to give the points
they have accumulated ( individual or the whole group) to the person up
next to play or the opposing team. The students can also "pass" if they
want to skip their turn, place their points in the "safe Zone" and they
cannot be taken even if the child draws a zonk later in the game. This
helps them save some points if they are willing to miss a
turn. When a zonk is drawn I have them turn around, and I move it to
another spot so they don't know where it will be for the rest of the game.
The winner is the team or player with the most points at the end of the
questions. Usually we get 25 questions done in about 30 minutes. I do 3 or
4 lessons, then we have zonk day. I also give them a list of questions
after each lesson to study. I find it really makes them listen and review.
They are always asking when we get to play zonk. My game is all black
light reflective, and we play under black lights to add to the special
day.

6) Children's Activity Sheets

I have been making children's activity sheets for my local church, based
on the scriptures for the Revised Common Lectionary.  Each week there are
two or three sheets of activities.  Bass Mitchell, author of several
Christian books, has agreed to make them available for FREE at his
website.  The files are in Adobe Acrobat PDF format.  You need to have the
free Acrobat Reader in order to use them.

8)  Esther Ideas

When I taught the story of Esther to my Sunday School class we had a
celebration on the last day we studied Esther.   We had the little girls
wear veils of tulle..just braid the tulle to encircle the head, Use twist
ties to gather it in the back, and leave the rest to hang loosely in the
back.  (A friend and I hot glued colorful beads and strands of costume
pearls to them to really make them festive before hand).  For the boys we
made little shepherd "hats".  We used about a yard of cloth and used a
long piece to tie it around their heads.  We then ate little debbie cakes
and drank kool aid.  We invited another class to join in the celebration
with us.  We gave a brief summary of the story of Esther for them and
every one had a great time.

9) Ways to congratulate our youth?

Hello To All.........
I am looking for ideas and ways to congratulate our youth and teens who
are active in Sunday School.  I know we can give them certificates but I
would like some other suggestions such special events to recognize them.
Does anyone have any suggstions?  any ideas on gifts?? We have given them
Bibles already

10) Fruit of the spirit lessons   

Hi-
There is a book published by Group called "Kids Travel Guide to the
Fruit of the Spirit" - in our church in the summer, we do a one room
Sunday school for kids K-6th grade, and this is the book I'm using this
summer.  It's got lessons already planned out.
